One hundred thousand router settings were changed

“Hackers have interfered DNS settings using low safety level of home routers (modems)”, said Team Cymru company. Attacks were realized by servers in two IP addresses in London, more than 300,000 home routers were hacked. Thus, hackers changed DNS settings of routers to DNS, which are under their control and their IP addresses are 5.45.75.11 and 5.45.75.36. It shows that the security situation of routers, designed for small office or home network, is very poor. So, in 2011, 2012, 2013, the results of the test and the analysis of a number of companies, which operating in the field of security, shows that, there are vulnerability in mos routers designed for small office and home network, against CSRF, authentification and easily blocking attacks.

Thus, hackers have accessed configurations of hundred thousands of modems, and have enabled to transfer traffic through their server, by replacing DNS settings with their own DNS. It allows to monitor traffic or to use the IP addresses of these routers as a bot.
